On June 26–27, 2024, the Social Justice Foundation (SJF), in partnership with CEDEP, hosted a two-day training on physical and digital safety for LGBTQI+ human rights defenders (HRDs) at Malawi Sun Hotel in Blantyre. The training aimed to enhance the capacity of LGBTQI+ activists and organizations to respond to increasing threats, especially in light of the public attention surrounding the Jana Gonani case. Day 1 focused on physical safety, while Day 2 addressed digital security, including secure communication and data protection. Participants engaged in practical sessions tailored to the Malawian context. The training formed part of SJF’s broader efforts under the Human Rights Grant to protect LGBTQI+ communities and strengthen grassroots human rights advocacy in Malawi.
